A little while ago, the folks at OXO contacted me & asked if I’d like to host a giveaway and try out their salad spinner. I was stoked because I didn’t own a salad spinner, so a lot of my salads tend to be (a-hem) damp….but~ not anymore! (Insert happy dance!)
You know what else? I never knew that OXO was a pronounceable word. I always said, oh-ex-oh. But, it’s pronounced “OX-O” I think they need an Ox mascot, so more people relate to them as a name. Hey, maybe they’ll let me create it… I’m artsy, like that. I’m totally thinking an ox in a chef hat or something. I need my people to contact their people. Wait. I don’t have people. I just have me and a big ol’ list of things to do. I need to add that.
Don’t steal my idea. That’s bad karma.
Okay, so… salad spinners. Do they give you a flash back of the 1970s? They do to me, I’m not too sure why. This one is NOT 70’s, though. It’s modern, no string, it triples as a salad bowl, storage container and salad spinner. Oh yes…
And… there’s this nifty little button you press that stops it. I love buttons. I’m one of those people that can’t resist poking a calculator with the soft rubber buttons. I know, I’m a weirdo.
To make these, you’ll need some Kale. You can buy it pre chopped and washed in bags, or whole bunches like this. It’s not sandy like spinach can be, so if the bunches are cheaper, go for those.
This is the spinner “in action” I know it’s hard to tell…. basically, you just pump the top knob a few times and it spins like a tornado from Oz.
Once your kale is spun and dry, lay “chip sized” pieces on a baking sheet.
Make sure there is no moisture, otherwise the chips won’t crisp, they’ll wilt.
I sprinkled mine with some sesame oil, sesame seeds and sea salt. You could also mist them with olive oil as well… if you happen to have one of those mister things.
Bake at 350 for 8-12 minutes, or until crisp. Watch them carefully everyone’s oven is different.
