waffle toast

Oh boy- I could not figure out what to call this. French waffles? French toast waffles? Then I decided to drop the French and call it waffle toast. You’ll see why…

They are made with fresh bread, not stale-like in traditional French toast.

Let’s face it-I never have stale sliced bread. It just doesn’t happen here.

Also, you cook them on a waffle iron.

I am not sure if I am the first person to do this. Am I?

If I am… well, that’s just awesome.

If not…that’s awesome, too-because this is delicious.

Start with fresh bread- I used Nature’s Pride Oatmeal. Because oatmeal is yummy.

I cut the crusts off- because my kids are in that “not-eating-the-crust” phase.

Don’t worry- I will rock out some homemade croutons with that crust….yum.

Here is an egg, a splash of milk, a few tbs of sugar, 1 tsp vanilla and cinnamon.

Dip your bread into it and lay it on your hot waffle iron…

This is what will happen.

It’s good plain, with some oats and powdered sugar on it- or…..

Give it a good maple syrup bath…oh yeah.

Nothing gets you going like sugar and coffee!
