watermelon slushies #summerdessertweek

Watermelon has always been one of my favorite fruits. It’s big enough to feed a family, and sweet enough to be dessert. It’s hydrating and cooling, and as refreshing as a dip in the pool.

Sometimes, it’s messy though. I can seldom eat a slice of watermelon without looking like a sticky five year old, with juice running to my elbows. But: there are sometimes you want to get your watermelon on in a more adult way.

Enter: watermelon slushies.

Speaking of slushies, earlier in the week it was free Slurpee® day, and I allowed my girls to get one. My eldest choose the most horrid flavor I could imagine (berry Capt’n Crunch) and my middle girl chose tangerine lemonade.

One sip of the frozen cereal flavored concoction was enough for my oldest, and it promptly went in the trash. My little one, however got a hold of “hers” (She’s almost two so we were just giving her a couple sips) she literally started slurping the whole thing down. As I proceeded to obtain it back into my possession, she preceded to run- on tile, spilling the Slurpee® everywhere. And slipping. Creating an indoor Slurpee® slip and slide. Not my best moment as a mom, when I yelled: “NEVER AGIAN WILL I GET FREE SLURPEES®!!!!”

Of course, next year I will get them, but they will be consumed OUTSIDE. On the GRASS.

Personally, I would love a frozen treat like that minus the artificial chemicals and excess sugar.

cool watermelon, a splash of sparkling water,  and you’ve got a refreshing concoction that will cool you off inside & out. Of course you can add more to this doing to make it even more “adult”, that’s totally up to you.
