Holiday recap

It’s officially NOT the holiday season.
Why does life speed up in those 12 weeks between Halloween and Christmas? I just want to soak it all in; the shopping for the perfect turkey, the aroma of the fresh sage and rosemary for the stuffing, the tiny little pops the cranberries make as they burst and simmer away in a bath of brown sugar and orange zest. And, pumpkin. Pumpkin everything.

Boom and Zoom it’s Christmastime and the lights are up as fast as they are taken down, in a wintry brush of peppermint kisses and glad tidings of joy… then it’s gone with a countdown, a ball drop, and a kiss.

And, here we are.

This holiday season plagued us personally with some misfortune, as my eldest daughter  fractured her ankle at a trampoline park, which resulted in a weeks worth of doctors appointments, two urgent care centers and a lovely 8 hour field trip to the ER. But, nonetheless we are thankful things are not worse.

My sweet mama is still under hospice care, but thriving if that even makes sense? She’s home with her dog and 24 hour care, and she just seems content with things as they are.( It’s been that way since April.) I make all her dinners, and one day, I’m going to show y’all all the “secret” recipes that she is thriving on. Stuffed salmon, shrimp scampi, sea bass, lamb chops, filet mignon,, sea scallops, herb crusted tilapia, and lots of fresh berries, and orange juice. Ohhhh man she drinks a lot of that, but she is a Florida native, so it’s in the genes. Vitamin C and D run in our bloodlines.

And, the four adopted littles? There is NOTHING like having a houseful of young kids at Christmas. I know all too well that these years will be gone in a blink of a twinkling  eye.

Until then, I will cherish and relish these ever so tiring days.

PS: Checking in for accountability on my #onehappy project.

Today: I made homemade butter mochi for the family. (unfortunately nobody liked it but me, but at least I tried)
