sugar cookie bars

I first saw these babies about a year ago… I ♥ sugar cookies as you may know…. so I finally got around to baking up a batch. Two things: It makes a TON. Well, 48. That’s a lot of cookies. 2nd thing? They are yummy. Think: sugar cookie meets brownie-minus the chocolate. The butter creme makes up for that. I am really not sure where to give credit for this; see, I first saw the recipe on an Italian blog, then I googled it and found it all over. Beantown Baker, My Baking Addiction and Big Red Kitchen have all made these. Here is the recipe I used:

Fluff:

2 sticks butter

2 cups sugar (duh… they’re sugar cookies!)

now add 1 at a time, please-

4 eggs

2 tsp vanilla

Combine:

5 c flour

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp baking soda

Add to the wet mixture.

I spread mine on a parchment lined jelly-roll pan.

The recipe suggested 13″x18″

It also said to bake at 375°F for 10-15 minutes. Mine was 17- that’s when mt toothpick came out clean. Ovens are funny. They act different in every-one’s house.

Now- let the big ol’ pan cool off. Do your dishes. Now make this:

Buttery-butter-creme

In a mixer-or with a mixer combine:

1/2 c butter, softened

1/2 c shortening

4 c powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp salt

3-5 tbs milk-*add one at a time wile mixer is beating… you don’t want it too runny.

I added a few drops of yellow coloring-I like yellow. It makes me happy. You can, too.

SPRINKLE TIME!!!!

Sprinkles are one of the funnest food items out there…. at least I think so. Take a bowl of vanilla ice cream. Now add sprinkles. Instant fun.

aren’t they pur-dee?!

That’s about it on the sugar cookie bars. They are yummy and easy.

Now- LIFE. Hmmm… I got a new camera lens for mama’s day!!!!! My hubby went into my “watching” list on Ebay and got me a lens and a few other “domestic” items. 🙂 I am having a BLAST with it. It’s a 28-105. I think I am a zoom lens kinda gal. I have prime lenses (50mm and a 35mm) but…. I like to zoom. Hmmm. That’s my thought.

We also found a spider in the laundry on mama’s day…. I spent 30 minuted trying to identify it. No luck. But- I learned that there are 5 venomous spiders in Florida…. and a ton that bite. Eeek.

We also picked strawberries on mama’s day, had a picnic and went to the park…. then it was slip n slide time. Yep me n the hubby got down n muddy with the slip n slide. Never underestimate the fun-ness of sliding.  Or swings, for that matter. In my opinion- you never get too old for those things.

mother's day 2010

I hope- y’all had a good day also, mama  or not! 🙂
