In a bowl, combine the butter, powdered sugar, flour and vanilla to form a dough.

Bake for 17-22 minutes
Meanwhile, in a saucepan over mediumm heat, melt the butter, add the flour and stir to combine, add the apples, cinnamon, caramel and salt and cook until apples are tender an caramels are melted.
Spread apples over crust and place int refrigerator to set.
